I’ve noticed all over Facebook folks doing the thirty days of Thankful-ness. I’m not sure if that’s the “proper” term for it….but I like it! I didn’t participate….because although….I am grateful….in more ways than I could mention in thirty days….I knew I wouldn’t remember to post it every day….and there is just something about that….that bothers me. Blame it on my OCD careful nature….or whatever…but there you have it. There is another reason…sometimes I just like to keep my appreciation to God…between he and I. Not that I have a problem sharing it….but sometimes I don’t feel like EVERYONE on Facebook wants to know it! lol ANYWAY………
I also don’t feel like I always need to toot my own horn…but in this case I want to….only because it is kinda for a good cause. I have a very dear friend that I think the world of….and her daughter is the Executive Director of an organization called Sustainable Roots(website). I won’t go into too much detail about the organization….because I would like for you to click on their link and snoop around their website. There you will see what they do..and how it effects our planet. I didn’t know anything about them until I read one of my friend’s posts this summer….but I was IMMMMPRESSED! I normally feel like my money and efforts should stay at home…but read about them….they aren’t a handout….they’re a hand-up! They don’t just GIVE to these communities….they TEACH them how to help themselves. Now….that kind of donations….I can handle!!! Like the old saying goes….”Give a man a fish….he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish….he’ll eat for a lifetime!”
Most folks I know can’t just pick up and go to Latin America and live for months…..I can’t. I can however, do what I had the opportunity to do this summer. My friend called out for donations for supplies for the the school where Sustainable Roots teaches English. I sorta liked getting to “see” where my money went. Some might prefer giving a monetary donation. If you have the time and energy for a physical donation or have another creative way to give you can contact them directly by writing to them….or sending supplies….or you can even send a check this way. If you feel you have been blessed in your life….consider passing that blessing along. Even if you don’t feel the call to give to Sustainable Roots (blog)….there are plenty of ways and needs in the world!
Love Y’all
