When I stay in Montana…sometimes finding something to work on, is more of a challenge, than any project could dream about being for me. Recently I lucked out, and found this darling little curio cabinet at the local thrift store. It wasn’t exactly what I wanted…but it sure had potential.
While I love cottage, this particular cabinet, was just not speaking cottage to me. It was cute, and I actually liked the colors, and the crackle texture…it just wasn’t what I was looking for. I DID NOT like the strange little applique that was attached to the front, and coming loose. I can’t say that it hurt my feeling that it just came right out of it’s holes before I could even get the cabinet home.
This is what the little thing looked like when I found it at the thrift store.
The lighting isn’t so hot here in Montana right now…and I struggle for quality pictures.
Like I said…not my cup of tea for this…and here’s what the applique area looked like. I filled these holes with spackle…and lightly sanded.
I gave the whole thing a new black dress…you know, everyone needs a little black dress.
Of course…she needed some sheet music to sing by.
I love that I decided to leave the crackle texture…it shows through the paint, just a touch.
I sanded back the edges just a touch…I love that look. Mainly, because if it gets a little scuffed in use…and you know it will…it just fits the whole thing.
Once the paint had time to set…I put a coat of clear wax sealer over it. This locks the paint…and protects it a bit. It also makes it way easier to dust in the end.
I chose some of the verses that I liked, and burned the pieces around the edges before decoupaging them onto the door.
I really love it. I think it’ll fit into a lot more applications in my home now.
I really think she’s gonna come in handy for stashing things that I don’t want laying around in the open.
Could you use a little curio cabinet in your home? I think I need about ten of them. LOL
