Steaming cushions
I’m gonna share a cool little secret with Y’all….something I learned a few years back…and it’s been a deadly weapon for me ever since. Now….Y’all know how much I love my crap belongings!! I keep some of my stuff till it’s falling apart well loved….lol and sometimes that’s how I get it in the first place! And….Y’all know how much I love my recycled treasures… But used up furniture is sometimes a little flat….as Y’all know, and I got really tired of replacing cushions. A….replacement foam is not cheap…and if you didn’t plan on replacing upholstery…kinda imprudent. Yes…I’m going to tell you about steaming cushions!
A few years ago I bought these chairs at an estate sale….they had an adorable shape….but they hate the UGLIEST fabric EVA!….I had the CUTEST Toile fabric. I had only recovered once before….I was working a lot at the time…and between the two, I really didn’t feel like I had time to mess with the cushions. I took them to an upholsterer. He didn’t have time to deal with them…but he DID give me a few pointers….and this was one of them….
When you have cushions…and yes…even pillows that are flat…..generally there is nothing wrong with the foam, and this works even if you AREN’T taking the fabric off.
This is what my footstools looked like this morning…..now….mine are a foam, down blend…so they didn’t do quite as well as a complete foam cushion will….and you’ll be SHOCKED.
Take a simple steamer….I have one for clothes….and fire it up!!!
Run it over every where the foam is flattened….you might find…that once the parts you THINK are flat get steamed….the parts you DON’T think are….will look like they are!!! Did that make since? Anyway….just hold the steam over the foam…and it will just slowly start puff right up!!! …..
Even with a partial foam cushion and about ten minutes of steaming…..look what my footstool looks like now!!!
Even looks a little cleaner too doesn’t it?
If steam can make this much difference in my footstool….just think what it’ll do for throw pillows that are flattened….100% foam….and other foam goodies around the house!!!

What a great idea. I’ll pass it along to my momma because her couch cushions leave a bit to be desired when sleeping on them (all flat and smooshed).
