Before I start…I just want to say: In light of the events in Boston yesterday, The families and friends of the victims are in my prayers. I will always be confused why so many people feel the need to make a stand in this manner. I pray that justice and peace finds their way swiftly.
Hypertufa Pots
A Hypertufa pot is a super cool containers that you make yourself. You can even make them colored…maybe to match my other decorations for the garden…like my dragonflies or bugs? hmmmm Of all my flowerpots….these are one of my very favorite. They’re fairly sturdy…and really lightweight. Best of all….I leave mine out. They handle themselves really well in the weather. Hypertufa pots are rustic, earthy and super simple to make. I love having potted plants sitting around my deck and patio….heck…I even like them sitting in my flower beds. These pots have peat and perlite incorporated into them…so they do hold moisture a bit better than most flower pots.
Wouldn’t these make wonderful Mother’s day gifts? Heck…they would just about make a cool gift for anyone, especially if they are potted up with the right things. You could even add some little accessories to them. You know what else they would work well for? A fairy garden…..hmmmm I see a post in my future! lol
Wanna learn how to make these bad boys? Of course you do!!! Read more…
Love Y’all!

Thank you for the tutorial. I like pots in my flower beds, too, and I love that you can leave them out year round.

I tried these, but was told to use equal amounts and didn’t quite work, crumbled. I also used vermiculite that actually worked better, can you use both?
Tammy says
I don’t know…I’ve never tried that…I’ve never had trouble with mine crumbling….It’s worth a shot…but vermiculite and perlite are almost the same aren’t they? Let me know how that works for you.
Tammy says
Pam…You might try using a bit more cement to help your pots hold together more.
