Baking Bread
Okay, so it’s not HOMEMADE bread baking, but it is bread that’s made at home…does that count?
This is just a super simple little way to add a little flair to you Valentine’s Day Meal. I know, I know, it’s canned bread sticks….but they’re cute! And, the marinara sauce is the perfect color for Valentines Day!!! 😉
So….for the bread sticks….or should I call them Bread Hearts? You’ll need:
As many cans of bread sticks as you think you’ll eat. I kid you not. I made this dozen for the post, I ate one, and Sara ate the rest….can anyone say “OINK”? I swear I don’t know how that girl keeps her figure!
Take your bread sticks and twist, then shape them into hearts. Doesn’t get any easier than that! Bake as the instructions say. Even if they aren’t truly homemade….I LOVE baking bread! There is something so satisfying about pulling a sheet of warm bread out of the oven!
Now, aren’t those pretty? Just before I ate mine, I spread some marinara over it….just to give it the right color!
Homemade Marinara
- 1/4 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 2 Gloves of Garlic peeled and sliced. I sautéed mine with the onions before using it.
- 6 cans (28 oz) whole tomatoes. Chop them up
- 4 ( 4 oz) cans of diced green chillies
- 1 (6 oz) tomato paste
- 1 small onion chopped
- 2 Cups of portabella mushroom caps, quartered
- 1/2 cup of capers
- cup of pitted green olives
- cup of fresh parsley
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1tsp dried cumin
- 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
Optional
- 1 tsp Habanero hot sauce
- 2 Tbsp prepared horseradish
- T Tbsp white sugar
Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat, and cook the garlic and onions until lightly browned. Drain excess oil. Mix in the whole tomatoes, diced tomatoes, green chiles, tomato paste, capers, green olives, parsley, portobello mushroom caps, horseradish, Habanero sauce, and sugar. Season with Italian seasoning, oregano, and cumin. Cover, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, and simmer 25 minutes. I blended mine with a stick blender…just to smooth it just a bit.
I hope Y’all enjoy this!
I HEART it!!!
Love Y’all!
