Mason Jar Luminaries
Don’t you just Love Mason Jars? I think they have to be one of the most fun items to play with. Why? Mostly because everyone has them. If you don’t…there’s probably one in your pantry with something in it…like spaghetti sauce or the likes. Mason Jar luminaries are the latest in my arsenal of Mason jar do ups! Did you see my grapevine mason jar last week?
I spent a lot of time with the wonderful Grand Loves this past week-end. I think that put me in the mood for this little inspiration. They got a big kick out of these…but I think that the big kids will too. I think the mummy is my favorite. One thing I did notice, the Frankenstein is a bit dark. I think the next time I might just use one coat of pain for him. Are they just adorable? They’re super easy to make…the kids can help, and if you’re worried about the glass breaking…or the tea light burning the house down…I have a solution….read on my friends.
Oh my GOODNESS isn’t Halloween fun?!!
All you need for these guys are:
- jar…any size will do. ( If you’re concerned with kids and breakable glass… Many foods come in plastic jars these days. If you opt for plastic…PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE…don’t use the real tea lights….grab some battery-powered ones at the craft store! YOU’VE BEEN WARNED!!! )
- medical gauze from any pharmacy dept.
- wiggle eyes
- tea light ( If you’re worried about the flame…or you opt for a plastic jar, you can get the battery operated tea lights )
- Acrylic paints in orange, green black and brown.
Take the gauze and hot glue the end to the jar…anywhere is fine. I started mine at the bottom. Begin to wrap haphazardly around the mason jar.
When you finish…hot glue the tail.
Hot glue your wiggle eyes and you ARE FINISHED…
If you’re doing the Frankenstein or the pumpkin…paint them in the orange or green. I put two coats…but like I said before, I think the Frankenstein only needs one…or a lighter shade of green. I painted brown around the rim of the pumpkin…and black with points down on the Frankenstein. Then I drew the eyes, noses, mouths and scars with a black sharpie.
It really is that easy!
I can’t believe something so darling is so easy to make. This is definitely something you could do at the last hour!
Which one is your favorite?
