Tattered Burlap Christmas Tree
If you’re a fan of my burlap gift wrap, or my burlap flip flops, or any other burlap recycled treasure…..this charming little Christmas tree is going to be right up your alley! By using up some of those scraps from other projects, she’s super easy to make!
What You’ll need:
- Burlap scraps (amount depends on how big you want to make your Christmas tree.
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Stapler
- Scrap of cardboard….or styrofoam tree form.
What you’ll do:
Start by deciding what size you want to make your Christmas tree (s). I made mine about 12 inches tall by 8 inches wide on the bottom. I started by drawing a triangle on my cardboard and stapling it into a tree shape. I can’t tell you how to do this….mine looked like poop….I just trimmed it as I went along! lol
See….none of my edges lined up perfectly….just trim it where it will sit right…..don’t try to be a perfectionist….it isn’t going to show!
Cut your burlap into long pieces with a point on the end. I figured out a secret as I went along.
I started out doing it this way…but I figured out an easier way….but you’ll need a few of these single ones. Mine are about 3 inches by 6 inches. Again…this will depend on how big your tree is. Notice in the picture above that I fastened my burlap where it sticks down past the bottom a couple of inches.
After I had glued my first row on….I decided this was WAY easier….and faster! I just cut the points and cut it off as I went along. After you get all the way around….start your next row up about two inches or so. Like I said before….this is pretty messy….and it’s completely IMPERFECT!!!
When you get them like you like….go back and check for any cardboard showing. If there is any….lift up the tail above it…and glue one of your singles in. Keep doing this until there isn’t any cardboard showing. When I got to the top….I just glued my burlap into a point….and then took three smaller pieces and glued them on top.
Now….to make her look tattered…take your ends and curl them up, by rolling them in your fingers.
Don’t panic if a little cardboard shows at this point…they will relax a bit after you sit it up.
Isn’t she just adorable. You could add some extra adornments to you Christmas tree at this point….but I really just LOVE mine….just like she is!
What do Y’all think? Would you ad ornaments? What other materials do you think would look good in place of the burlap?
Just a few more days till Christmas!
Love Y’all!
