Red Hots, Pom Poms and Cupcake Holders
Red hots have long been a favorite little treat of mine. Since I was a little girl, infact. Pom Poms…well, they’ve been a favorite little craft too. Put Red Hots and Pom poms together…and woo to the hoo. Not only that, these are quick and easy Valentines Day gifts for those special teachers, friends and anyone else on your list, that you just don’t want to get such an “intimate” gift for! Guess what?…they’ll make your breath smell good too…so, save a few for you, for when you take them to your recipient, and make a good impression! lol
Supplies:
Yarn
Cupcake holders
Red Hots (I used two packages)
Cupcake Ball sticks.
Jar
Decorative burlap
Let me show you just how easy these are to make…and get the kids in on this…isn’t it time they learn how to make yarn pom poms? I’ve seen these made with a fork, but I think those are a bit small…for my taste…if that works for you, great. I preferred something a bit wider, and a remote control was handy, so, that’s what I used. As kids, we’d just use our hands.
Start winding the yarn around whatever you’re using.
This is about half of the yarn I wound around the remote for each of my pom poms.
Once you get a sufficient amount of yarn gently pull it off the edge, and tie a separate piece around the middle and tie it really tightly…you might want someone to hold it, so that you can get it really tight.
Now begin to snip the loops.
Then, give it a trim. I bunch it up in your hand, and make the ends even.
Now just shake it out..and snip any ends that are unruly…and keep trimming till you like it.
Take your cake ball sticks and place a dab of hot glue on the end and secure your pom pom onto it.
Fill your container with red hots, or candy of your choice. These serve as a sweet treat, and it will also help hold up your pom pom stems.
Place a piece of loose weave fabric, like burlap over the opening of the jar. Your stems have to go through the fabric.
Secure the fabric with the ring of the lid.
Place your sticks down spaced evenly around the top.
Now take your cupcake holders and bunch them up, hot gluing the bottoms and starting in the center, place them in and around the sticks to add fluff!
I started in the center and worked my way out.
It really doesn’t take very many of these to fill in and be really pretty. I think I used 7 or 8.
I would love getting one of these. Of course, I’m partial to Red Hots, but the main reason, it that wonderful feeling of receiving a gift that someone took their time, to make just for me.
That really is the best kind of gift, don’t you think? This could be changed up a bit with a different color, and type of candy. You could even make this an ANY occasion gift by changing colors, heck, I like red ANY day.
You could put more pom poms…but I think this one is just perfect with five….
Would you tell me about your quick and easy projects?
