Pet Bed from a suitcase.
I started blogging about two years ago…it seems like forever ago. I still wouldn’t call myself a professional…but I’ve come a long way baby! One of my very first projects…was my “Doggone Good Thang“. At the time…I was so proud. Now…I’m almost ashamed to admit it’s my work. It’s not so much the project…but the photography too. Anyway….
This week, I’m involved in two different parades….a porch tour on Deja Vue Designs….and a Thrift Store Pet Rescue sponsored by Hometalk. If you know anything about me…it’s that I’m a HUGE pet lover. So…naturally I was GONNA get on board with that! I knew instantly what I was gonna do for my project…because I’ve been dying to redo my pet bed for some time now.
I got this cool plaster paint that I’ve been dying to try out…and it was absolutely the perfect color for my living room….and for the fabric that I had picked out for my rescue remake.
There really isn’t much to tell….from the first time….I installed two wooden blocks behind the lid…so that it wouldn’t slam shut…or fall backwards. If your lid is very heavy…you could put some wood in the inside…under the cushion for extra weight. I also attached four wooden balls to the bottom for feet.
I screwed the blocks into the lid…and the lower portion of the suitcase.
Then I added some stuffing…and hot glue around the edges for the fabric. I didn’t mind using hot glue…because it pulls lose fairly easily. I had no problem pulling my last fabric right out.
After painting the suitcase with that GORGEOUS red…from Mango Seed Designs….I replace the fabric with my choice.
This time Molly wasn’t the only model for my project…although no project would be complete without her…Moose…my other little brat had to get in on the action. She couldn’t resist cocking her head for the camera….hog! lol
I think it suits (Pun intended) them pretty well….don’t you?

Tammy, your pet bed is super-duper cool… I love it!! It looks like your pups might even fight over who gets to cuddle up in it first. I love how you added the ball legs as well, it’s just like have a new piece of furniture on display rather than any old pet bed. Glad to be on this benefit tour with you ~ Amy
