Permanently Stained

Well…I’ve been in Montana a couple of days…and I have to say….I’m not envious of my poor hubby and son! The nights here are already cold…and the trees are changing (which is gorgeous!). I’m a Southern girl right to the bone!!!

Yes…I’m painting and doing a little updating…but my trip is gonna be cut short because Sara has to start her job on Monday….and the flights here…what few exist….are as gauged as everything else…a one way ticket to fly her home is around $1,100.00. Ridiculous considering I could book a flight from home to Hawaii cheaper than that!!! Southwest Airlines….wake up!!! You’re missing an amazing opportunity here!!! Okay…enough of that…but I do Love them!!!

Part of what I’m doing in my quest to give Y’all home decorating ideas…is trying to make these…part wood…part plastic cabinets look a little more classy! Now personally…I would LOVE to just paint them…..but Dave has to live here….and he loves wood. So I’ve been trying to figure out what I can do to improve them with out painting them. I guess in a way….that would make these part of my list of recycled treasures. This is what I came up with: GEL stain!

I’ve only done one coat…so it’s not extremely different….but it’s real obvious how much improvement 2-4 coats are gonna make! I probably won’t get that done this trip….since today is Wednesday….and I’m leaving early Friday morning. But I couldn’t wait to see what it was gonna look/work. There is just something beautiful about dark wood….besides painting it (my first choice) it’s really the only way to have it. I have actually painted it…and then stained that before…which personally would be my second choice here…but I like a clear wood….and Dave LOVES the grain….so here’s the long awaited pics…and I’ll post more as the subsequent coats go on!
