Today I’m sharing an easy Patriotic DIY that’s perfect for the upcoming Summer holidays of Memorial Day and July 4th: Ribbon Glass Pillar Candles!
You can use this DIY to make similar projects for other holidays or to match your own decor! Another win-win!
To make these patriotic candles, you will need a selection of red, white and blue or patriotic ribbons. I found these at The Ribbon Retreat:
You’ll also need basic glass pillar candles, sometimes called Prayer Candles or Devotional Candles. You can find them at the dollar store (that’s where I purchased mine), and at many grocery stores.
These unscented candles are fantastic to use for weddings and special occasions because you’ll get a long-burning candle that can be decorated in so many different ways!

Craft tip alert!
Here’s the key craft supply you need to make easy work of attaching ribbon to glass: super-sticky double-sided tape!
The tape that I used for this project is American Crafts This to That Double-Sided Super Sticky Red Tape.
This to That Tape comes in a few different widths. Click the image above for more info on the tape. It’s available at many craft stores, online stores and via Amazon too.
Directions: Cut your tape to the length needed for your ribbon. This to That Tape comes with a protective strip on both sides of the tape. Remove one protective strip and attach to the glass pillar candle. Once attached, smooth out the tape with your fingers, then remove the remaining protective strip and attach your ribbon.
For any skinny ribbons – like the blue ribbon I used here – you can simply tie it tightly over the wider ribbons you attached with the super sticky tape. I wrapped this blue ribbon several times around each pillar first, then tied in a bow.
