Miniature Basket Garland for a Fairy Garden!

I’ve got a cute craft project for you today – a DIY miniature basket garland that you can add to your fairy garden or anywhere you want a sweet, miniature pop of color!

It all begins with these packages of mini baskets found at the craft store:

These packages are easy to pass up when you’re out shopping for craft supplies. They don’t look like much.

Who wants to buy some tiny baskets that are just sort of… well… boring?

We do! You and me! 

Here’s a better look at the contents in my packages:

There are several sizes and styles of tiny baskets, plus fans, as well as some baskets that could also double as tiny hats – think garden hats in your fairy garden, perhaps!

The first thing I did was to paint them all the same color – black. 

I knew I wanted to ultimately paint these baskets in pretty colors, but my first step was to make them all have the same base coat that might poke through the pretty colors here and there. 

After separating out the various basket styles I had (above), and then dividing them into equal piles, I painted them in chalky finish paint shades of purple, green, turquoise, gold and pink. 

I had to do two coats of the pink and gold colors, but the others looked fine with just one coat.

Aren’t they pretty?

Once you’ve painted these miniature baskets, you could use them for all kinds of things like vase fillers, or scattered around the center of a table as decorations.

I knew I wanted to make a sweet garland with mine!

I used some bright pink embroidery floss as my “garland” and attached each miniature basket with some natural white hemp cord.

(You could also use ribbon or string as your garland. You could attach the baskets with thin ribbon or yarn. These ideas should give you a jumping off point to use what you might already have handy!)

I love the way the colors look outdoors against natural wood!

You might notice that the “hats” are missing from the garland. It was next to impossible to thread my cord through the hats, so I gave up. However, using these as garden hats propped in your fairy garden is a cute idea!

This is a large pot of sage that just keeps coming back year after year. 

The fairies call it Sage Forest!
