Cinnamon Gift Tags/Ornaments
These gift tags smell amazing!!! Almost good enough to eat! But unless you’re into eating glue….let’s refrain! After giving them…you can either save them for next year’s gift tags, or let the recipient take them home for an extra gift to hang on their tree! Sara stood over me the whole time I was cutting these, and while my gift tags were drying just saying…..really? We can’t eat them? Are you sure you’ve already added the glue? lol
What you’ll need:
- 2 medium bowls
- 1 cup ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup applesauce
- Craft glue
- Wire rack
- Paper towels
- Baking sheet
- straw or squer
- Glitter and beads
- Bottle with applicator tip
- Tissue paper, for storing
What you’ll do:
1. Prepare dough: in a medium bowl, mix together 1 cup ground cinnamon and 1/4 cup applesauce using a rubber spatula.
2. Stir in 1/2 cup craft glue. Stir the dough until consistency is smooth and dry. Let stand approx 1/2 to 1 hour.
3. Turn out dough onto a cool, flat surface; flatten with your hands.
4. Flatten with a rolling pin to 1/8 inch for gift tags…1/4 inch thick for ornaments. If dough becomes too dry, spritz with water. If it sticks to rolling pin or work surface, sprinkle with additional cinnamon. I patted mine out to 1/8 inch, because I’m making gift tags….however, they seem plenty strong for ornaments if you’re not rough with them.
5. With a straw or other object…I used a wooden squers, poke a hole in dough as indicated on template (for hanging). Air-dry ornaments on a wire rack lined with paper towels for 24 hours, turning them over every 6 hours or so to keep them flat. Alternatively, preheat oven to 200 degrees. Transfer ornaments to a baking sheet; bake, flipping once, until dry, about 2 hours.
6. Using a bottle with an applicator tip, spread craft glue over the area you wish to decorate.
7. While glue is still wet, sprinkle with glitter or beads, holding gift tag over a bowl as you work; tap off excess.
9. Thread a length of ribbon through the gift tag’s hole, trim the ends to prevent fraying, and knot. Once you take the gift tags off of your present or tree if making ornaments, store them, wrapped individually in tissue paper, in a cool, dry place.
How to use:
After completely drying your gift tags, tie them onto your presents. Remember…if you don’t get too specific on the front….your recipient can use these for ornaments. I’m including pictures of mine without any decoration….just because I wanted to get them done for this post. I also wanted to show you how AMAZING they look with the natural gift wrap I shared last week! They would look really cute hanging on the tree with the Jute dragonfly ornaments or the Angel ornaments I shared too!
Yeah…I know! I haven’t cleaned the edges up either….remember, I was trying to get this out so you’d have time to use it on your Christmas gifts!
Oh….I did get some beads put on this gift tag, but if you’ll notice….the glitter spray isn’t even dried all the way! lol
You’re gonna have the BEST smelling ornaments EVER!!!!
Love Y’all!
