Today I’m going to show you just how easy a fridge magnet makeover can be!
I admit it: we are “those people” who use the free promotional magnets we receive. And some of these magnets don’t even have the “promo” information on them anymore, they are that old. I keep these sad magnets on the side of the fridge, and put our “pretty” magnets in the front.
But lately those ugly magnets have been calling out to me: “Help me! Fix me! Give me a makeover!”
The two large magnets above are old plastic clothespins, while the small clothespin magnet is metal. The magnets on the back of each clothespin are still super strong. Being able to clip important reminders or coupons with these clothespins is why these magnets have stuck around (pun intended) for so long.
Craft paint (in your choice of color)
Small plastic lid (to hold the paint)
Buttons – assorted
Washi tape (your choice of pattern)
Step One: Paint your clothespin magnets with multiple coats of paint until the color covers the previous color(s) well. I mixed two yellow shades together to match the wall color in our kitchen.
For these clothespin magnets, it took four coats to cover each one. Craft paint dries quickly however, so this step doesn’t take too long to do.
Step Two: Wrap washi tape around the tops of each clothespin. (For the tiny clothespin, I wrapped the washi tape around it twice.)
I purchased this fun washi tape that mimics a measuring tape:
This tape matched perfectly with the painted clothespins!
Press down on the washi tape to smooth it out completely.
Step Three: Play with the arrangement of buttons until you like how the layout looks on each magnet. I have a small collection of buttons, some modern, some vintage, and had fun choosing colors that would go with our kitchen.
Step Four: Using mini Glue Dots, attach the buttons to the clothespin magnets. Press and hold for a few seconds.
And that’s it! A quick and easy fridge magnet makeover!
Our ugly fridge magnets are now fun magnets that match our kitchen area, and they aren’t an eyesore anymore either! (I might even put them on the front of the fridge now!)
Do you have any sad magnets on your own fridge?
Give them an easy update with some craft paint and embellishments!
