What do you do when you have a stool, that you LOVE the bones of….but hate just certain parts? Not too long ago, my sister acquired this step stool for me. (I kinda have a fetish…not just for step stools…but benches of all kinds). I absolutely adore the lines. It’s rare to run across a stool, that has AMAZING chippy paint like this one had…but that disgusting crap on the steps. I decided that this was going to be something I loved, and this is how I was going to do it. Plus…I get to save the amazing chippy paint too!
Here is what this step stool looked like before…and why I almost did used her…although, I’m pretty sure, I’ve never turned down a step stool..or bench. Especially one that’s just dripping in chippy paint.
I hated the top, so I filled in the screw holes.
And…gave it a sanding.
Do you remember my Aged Paper Technique? Well…that got used in this process.
Then…to solve the problem of losing my chippy paint…I decided that the modge podge I’m using to apply the sheet music…would work perfectly!
This step stool…has the PERFECT amount of chippy paint…don’t you think?
So…what to see how she turned out?
Okay……..
I love how I got the “Love Enough” just saved….
It was really the only part that I tried to preserve.
My little miniature tea set looks so darling on it too.
Do you like the paint? It’ll always be there now…the modge podge glued it into place…the beauty of it…it’s flat sheen…so the old rustic paint, doesn’t lose it’s “OLD” quality.
Maybe…she’s singing a Love Song for Valentine’s Day…NO?
Do you have an old piece that could be improved and saved?…I bet you could figure it out somewhere…..

So lovely . The only step I would have added would have been to treat the wood – when you don’t know it’s history – I use a complete wood treatment that claims to treat woodworm , wet and dry rot etc . Gives me piece of mind anyway !

Thank you. I’m hoping I got away with that…but generally I will too. Thank you for stopping by, and have a wonderful week!

love the treatment. I had an old step stool and used old yard sticks on the top and each of the steps. but your idea is gives more character. what is the green round grass-like object? and what is the candle sitting in behind the stool?
Tammy says
Thank you Jacie! The ball is decorative moss ball I bought a long time ago. The candle holder is a spindle from an old couch I found in a dump. lol You never know what I’ll drag home! Have a great day!
