Apple Drinks Served in Apple Cups
I really don’t think it’s any secret by now, I love apples. I seem to always have more than my fair share of them. They are so abundant during the holidays…and I’m so glad.- Apples have to be one of the most versatile fruit there are. you can make them sweet, sour, savory…and yes even drink them. After today…you’re gonna find out, you can even serve drinks OUT of them. Now that’s…versitility!
This week We’re having a Virtual Thanksgiving Dinner…and I’m serving drinks. I can’t wait to see what all the other hostesses are serving up for this festive celebration!
What I did for these drinks first, is took an apple corer and removed the core and the scooped out the flesh with a spoon. I like to leave about an 1/8″ of flesh all the way around inside..to insure that it will hold liquid. Then I coat them with a little lemon juice to make sure they don’t brown.
Hot Buttered Cider
Ingredients:
7 cups Apple cider OR apple juice
1/3 cup Brown sugar, packed
4 stick cinnamon
1 teaspoon Whole allspice
1 teaspoon Whole cloves
1 Lemon peel, cut into strips
1 1/2 cups Rum
Butter or margarine
Thin apple slices
Directions:
Combine apple cider or apple juice and brown sugar in a large saucepan. For spice bag, tie cinnamon, allspice, cloves, and lemon peel in a 7 inch square of 100 percent cotton cheesecloth. Add spice bag to cider mixture. Bring cider mixture to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 15 minutes. Remove and discard spice bag. Stir in rum. Pour cider mixture into mugs. Float about 1/2 tsp butter or margarine on each. Top each serving with one or two thin apple slices. Makes about 10 (6-oz) servings.
Apple cider spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves.
Ingredients:
3 quarts apple cider
12 whole cloves
1 cinnamon stick
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Preparation:
In a large saucepan, bring all ingredients to a boil. Strain and serve hot spiced cider hot in mugs.
Makes 12 cups of hot spiced cider.
I like to finish my ciders off with a touch of whip cream….garnished with cinnamon a stick, a couple of pecans and just a light dusting of cinnamon. A cherry would be a beautiful touch too. If you aren’t going to serve right away..wait to put your whip cream on them…it has a tendency to melt down…especially on warm drinks. It should be the last thing you add. YUMMMMY!!!
Don’t forget to head on over to all the other sites for their servings…and come back tomorrow to see the new dishes and delights!
